Quick and painful.

Like an evil band-aid tugger of yore, I am here to raise our Offside Flag on a recent Bild report claiming that Julian Green's participation in USMNT camp ahead of their March 5 friendly against Ukraine. It is not, I am told from both sides of the Atlantic, the act of him definitively choosing us over Ze Germince and he will not be playing in the match.

Full MLSS report coming shortly.

not looking to get blasted here, but do you envision any scenario where jk promises a wc roster spot for a switch?

John said...

@evan: I can see it happen if Julian really impresses JK when the U.S. MNT trains in Frankfurt before the Ukraine friendly.

Greg Seltzer said...

No. That is not going to happen, folks.

green is pretty much locking himself into the team mentally with this move. he could reverse pivot, but he is going to feel to comfortable with the surrounding of the US team. how can he not?

boyd as a roommate, JJ next door. aron joha discussing being born in America and being raised outside of it, and then coming full circle.

I think the real question, is how much of an impact will this potential move have on the decision of a young arsenal prodigy.

Setting aside the rest of your jibberjabber, Gedalem is NOT a US citizen. Everyone needs to please realize this fact and let it go.

Green could be using US interest to help accelerate a call up to the German senior team as well. I agree that it's highly unlikely he'll be on either roster in Brazil as well.

dikranovich said...

greg, how can you be so off on so many phases of this game, and whats really going on out there???

and then not even be able to admit it.

Greg Seltzer said...

Muh huh.

dikranovich said...

your post did come across the wire at 9:11, and that is appropriate.

Greg Seltzer said...

Sorry, what stupid and surely offensive thing are you trying to say? Step lightly, though, because the leash is short.

dikranovich said...

greg, maybe the fact that you think you control some sort of leash is part of the problem. I don't know. cue the dog jokes....

justinwkoehn said...

There's got to be a way to ban this troll's IP or something...

dikranovich said...

whats with wanting to ban soccer fans in our country??? its too much. can you hear yourself just in? we need more soccer fans in our country, not less.

JK would be a moron to NOT promise him a spot. He is, by far, the best prospect that we have seen in ages. If he can get some minutes at the end of the year on what might be the best Bayern team in history, an argument could be made that he is our most talented player.

You are making posts about Lletget, who is 4 years older and can't sniff West Ham's lineup.

We are talking about Shea, who can't crack Stoke's lineup.

Gatt was looking like a contender.........he plays at Molde.

He's better than the guys he is up against for spot #23.

Greg Seltzer said...

What we do not need is you coming in with bizarre, unintelligible 9/11 references out of a clear blue sky to make hay around here. The post was not even up at that time on the clock anyway. I have enough leash to remove posts, so either get to the heart of your disruption right off the bat or let it go.

Sorry but you fine folks who say stuff like this need to think beyond the player, even if all you so is true. This is not something a coach should ever do. You do not promise anyone anything, let alone a teenager you have never seen train in person (presumably) with three minutes of first team pro ball.

It would be terrible to blow this kid's ego up before he's actually done anything. We saw what happened to Adu.

An American on the bench in today's CL games! Does Klinsmann bring 3 keepers to the Ukraine?

its looking like we might see some platooning in this Ukraine game.

Jermaine jones for center half, paired with Cameron. it is a juicy option to see what the old man could bring. we probably get bedoya at right back and FJ on the left.

to bad gooch could not be fit for his game today, but I guess he still has a week or two to show something.

this would also nicely open up a spot for danny Williams to come in and play a nice defensive mid role.

Don't take the bait. Don't take the bait. Don't take the bait.

On Yelldell - I can't come up with a 3rd keeper in Europe that's better than he is...am I missing someone?

dikranovich said...

Timmy, I don't know if Cody cropper is better, but he is younger and surely has more potential

Timmy said...

Cropper's the guy I was blanking on. Also hasn't had a lot (any?) first team time, but has to be ahead of Yelldell.

John said...

@Greg Seltzer: It can happen and it's definitely not impossible IMO.

John said...

@justinwkoehn: Green is not using the U.S. to help accelerate a Germany call up. And there is a chance that he can be in the U.S. roster, if there wasn't a chance then JK wouldn't have bothered inviting him to train with the U.S. and would have probably waited after the WC.

John said...

@heythisisrobbie: JK is not a moron that is why he invited Green to train with the U.S. MNT. It's definitely a good step in the right direction.

John said...

@justinwkoehm: It's a bit of apple and oranges. Adu was told he was going to be the next Pele and was playing in MLS as a young teen. Green has been working his way through in the Bayern Munich system and he is highly rated by Pep Guardiola.

Greg Seltzer said...

@ John: It is not going to happen. Nobody does this. Nobody promises an unproven teen a World Cup starting spot sight unseen. I mean, that is some fantastical thinking on multiple levels.

Timmy said...

How about a hypothetical conversation. What if Green wows Klinsmann and he says to himself 'this guy will offer way more off the bench than Shea or Wondo (or Davis or whoever the 23rd guy is). I want this kid in Brazil with me."

Could Klinsmann include Green on his 30-man roster (due in May, I believe) without Green filing for his one-time switch? Could he include him if the switch has been filed for but the paper work hasn't been finished? How long does the paper work take? Etc?

Greg Seltzer said...

How long does it take? Ya never know, really, but the process seems to become quicker over the years.

I am not certain, but I think the switch has to at least be in for processing before Klinsi could put him on the provisional list. Again, do not quote me as gospel on that.

heythisisrobbie said...

Greg, hypothetically, what if Green impresses during training and gets 15 minutes a game for Bayern their last 5 games?

Wouldn't that warrant a call if for nothing else than to get him in for 2018 and 2022?

Greg Seltzer said...

Erm, I am not saying a call-up will not happen. One has now. I am saying no coach heading into World Cup is going to promise a starting spot to a teenager with no pro experience to speak of. For a number of reasons.

John said...

@Greg: I'm not saying that it's going to happen but it's possible if the kid really impresses Klimsmann.

Greg Seltzer said...

No, it is not. You guys should know better.

justinwkoehn said...

If we were Cameroon we'd make it happen...but we're not.

John said...

We'll see what happens.
