In case you might have wondered...

So I have done some poking around, as I tend to do. A couple folks who would know have assured me that there is no great hidden story to Sunderland boss Gus Poyet leaving Jozy Altidore out of his Capital One Cup final squad.

He was not injured, there has been no mystery spat with a coach, no message handed down and no punishment for any particular field transgression(s) against Arsenal. As boring as it may be, it appears this was just a simple decision made by the manager, and one that was not revealed to the squad until a couple hours before kickoff of their 3-1 loss to Man City.

And as such, my initial reaction stands.

jozy looked like he was playing for sunderland today... except we were worse than sunderland...

I looked at the 1st half stats at break, John Brooks has more touches (49) than Dempsey, F. Johnson and Altidore COMBINED (46).

Our team and Jozy needs Donavon. I think we beat UKR with our best IX

tsar gregor, come on!!! your initial reaction was that jozy was yanked at halftime of the arsenal game, so he could be well rested for the carling cup.

then, you suggest that the coach who pulled him and did not put him even in the 18 for the last match was rude for doing so.

now, you snoop around and people who are in the know, tell you there is no great mystery to jozys benching, and bla bla bla.

Why do you come in here lying?

My initial GUESS was that MAYBE that was the reason, because Johnson also was pulled at the same time. In no way at any time did I ever portray that as news reporting or a certified opinion.

As I said, the rude call stands.

Finally, what the hell do you think I do around here everyday? If you find me some lowly snoop, then go bother someone you respect. The only real fly in the ointment right here right now is that you are incapable of having a fact jammed into your head.

Ya heard.

A little ambiguous are the comments, but it sounds to me like Poyet is making an example out of Altidore and warning his players others could be next...

Also, sadly, that Jozy will not be called again this year unless Poyet is forced to call him into a game squad due to injury... Harsh and not what any USMNT fans want to hear to be sure...

“One of the things with Jozy is that he was lucky enough to have the international game,” Poyet said today when asked about how Altidore would react.

“He could go away with his country and be normal up to a point.

“It’s going to happen with other players; someone else will be left out who is not expecting it.

“It’s not nice, I don’t like it.

“But unless we get a few injuries, it will be the same until the end of the season.

“For them, it will be hard"

He is talking about everyone. And he already said earlier this week it was no lesson or message, just a decision. He said that less than 24 hours after my post on it.

Like I said, seems a bit ambiguous and maybe I am reading it wrong...

That said, if a player isn't called for one match here or there... big deal. Coaches rotate and rest players all the time. I don't see that as that big a deal.

The way it read sounded like "...at least he's got his USMNT game as he won't be playing here unless someone gets injured."

Again, hope I'm reading that wrong as it does read a bit ambiguous.

I for one think poyet is going to have Jozy in the 18 today. He has to know Jozy played at hull city and the manager might just see this as a chance to get a strong game from his maligned striker.

What everyone wants to see from Jozy is better touches in the final third, and not so much hand waving and facial expressions. It's that simple really.

1 - You do not even come remotely close to speaking for everyone. At best, you speak for the most obnoxious Sunderland fans and the US fans who love to bash their own... let that sink in for moment.

2 - Just curious, what does quote-unquote everyone want to see from the rest of the squad? Or even one particular player on the squad? Anything? Or are they all as perfect as Detective Rosa Diaz?

What the manager wants to see is better touches, and less facial expressions. Play the game, and try not to let your opponents know your state of mind. I don't. Know, it doesn't seem that hard.

And this goes for the manager at Sunderland, as well as our manager coach klinsmann.

well that stinks. no jozy in the starting 11 or 18. borini and Johnson on the bench.

at least it is a very nice morning outside and I can get in some gardening.

oh my gosh, maybe the sky is not falling, because it looks like jozy might have picked up an injury before the game that is keeping him out of the 18.

there is of course an express article from yesterday which gives insight into poyets feelings, which indicate that jozy has been professional about his benching, and that he will return to the lineup.
