No LIVE tonight

Wanna know why? Look carefully at this team sheet for tonight. Sunderland is a total clown car, on so many levels.

I'm also outraged that Gooch isn't starting.

(But seriously, dude needs to jump on the next available means of transportation to as far away from Sunderland as possible.)

I'm looking at the positives. His service can't be any worse than with the first team. And perhaps when he wins a ball there might be a teammate to pass to. Perhaps he'll actually see an increase in form!

What a joke of a club. And it all started when the handed the keys to the ultimate charlatan in Di Canio and is just continuing with Poyet.

I'm torn. I don't want to see Sunderland relegated in case Jozy stays, but I also don't want them winning without him in the line-up. I guess go Spurs...

If it makes you feel any better, nothing you wish or hope for will actually affect the outcome. :)

Hah, well that's true but it will affect in what lens I watch the game in, being a neutral in this match up.

It might not be bad for him to play a few reserve / U21 games so he can get in a goal-scoring rhythm. Sunderland are pretty bad, but Jozy hasn't done much to help the team, and may benefit from a little U21 confidence boost.

I feel like he must have done something to deserve this, no? It's such a slap in the face to Jozy. I sort of hope there's a good explanation for this. Otherwise, it's gotta wipe away what little confidence he had left.

I know Sunderland U21 are up 3-0 at half, but I don't know who scored the goals. Here's hoping...

So a US U-20 player who has never made a senior club appearance is on the bench (Gooch) but our 1st choice striker is playing with the U-21s. Fuck Sunderland.

Nevermind, reading comprehension fail on my part. But my last statement still stands.

Found out who scored SAFC U21's first 3 goals: Smith, Mandron and Mavrias. Come on Jozy, do something.

39mins. Big chance for Altidore but half-hearted attempt brings cries if derision from the crowd

HT: Sunderland U21 3 Tottenham U21 0. Spurs awful in defence. Could have & probably should have been more. Altidore has been just as bad. Small crowd but annoyed at his lack of effort. Has looked totally uninterested

cant even get on the scoresheet for U21's and people are all outraged that he's left off the senior roster. step. it. up. jozy.

Does anyone really think that Jozy's future isn't written in stone at this point? I see little chance he's not leaving Sunderland after they get relegated. And I hope they get relegated. They play an awful version of soccer that's zero fun to watch.

@Corey - That's sad news. Would have sent a message if he lit it up with the U21's while the senior team got dismembered at white hart lane. If he doesn't care anymore, I don't care if he starts in Brazil at this point. Tired of people making excuses for him, me included.

Timmy said...

justin - how can you possible draw the conclusion that Jozy doesn't care?

Greg Seltzer said...

I think a lot of people are overreacting and over-speculating how it plays out in the US line-up.

And if people are out hissing in derision at any player in an U21 game for their club, I would not pay much attention to what they think.

that sunderland team has mailed it in it looks like... no fight from them at all... would seem they know they are down... Jozy to the U21's for a game... O'Shea, their season long team captain, not even called into the squad today... There's no desperation at all in the team lineup - like a WTF, I'll call this lineup and see what happens. sad really...

justinwkoehn said...

@Timmy, I based the assumption that Jozy doesn't care from the commentary Corey posted with words like: "half-hearted attempt" and "looked totally uninterested."

I can't verify, as U21 games aren't broadcast in my area.

Started the downward spiral by firing Di Canio. Sunderland let the players run the roost as soon as he was let go.

Timmy said...

justin - I don't know how Jozy looked either, but why would you trust the opinion of some person posting on twitter who you've never met (or probably heard of before today)?

justinwkoehn said...

Yes, because it's a common narrative, and given there were only 179 observers, I'll take whatever source I can get. He also wasn't involved in any of the scores which is troubling.

Timmy said...

justin - I guess my point is that if you were a Jozy defender/supporter before the U21 game yesterday, the analysis of some guy on twitter shouldn't change anything. Am I disappointed with Jozy's performance so far this year? I sure am. Is Jozy disappointed? I'm sure he is. But I'm not going to start drawing conclusions about how much he cares based on what I see on NBC Sports (or twitter), and I'd encourage you not to either.
