The Big Monday Announcement - Part Deux

Am I insane or did Klinsi also just announce that he has already settled on a center back stable? You already know what I think: too many forwards, not enough defensive options (including Williams).

Oh... and, OMG, what have done to Mix's hair?

Hmm. Boyd's gotta be feeling great about his chances without EJ, as Wondo's the other bubble forward and doesn't play that target role. Glad no Castillo, surprised at Corona, and would've liked to see Ream, even if he was a long shot. Yedlin is there for the camp experience, and Green? We'll see.

As it so happens, I *just* got off the phone with T-Boyd and he is pretty well over the moon.

The Ream exclusion is baffling, and I do not want to hear any talk of oh well he did not go to one camp because his kid was being born. If that is enough to keep him out, we have a problem.

I would assume no one is there exclusively for experience. And if someone is there that the staff does not actually feel could possibly contribute in some meaningful way this time, then they are doing it wrong.

Oh... and some of that T-Boyd chat will be up at MLSS in a bit.

Looking back at your list, Onyewu was always a long shot, but I'm bummed for Ream that he won't get a shot in camp. I'm guessing Cameron and Parkhurst's versatility makes only bringing 4 CBS to camp more sensible (to JK, at least)?
I'm surprised, but not really surprised, that EJ didn't make the 30.
Also disappointed for Agudelo. Would love to be able to bring him on as a late sub to create and/or find a goal.

Greg - What'd JK say about center backs?

Yeah, I hope you're right, Greg, but I can't see Yedlin making it over Cameron, Parkhurst, FJ, Evans, and Chandler.

Most of the defenders are so versatile that I wouldn't be surprised to see an extra F/MF slip in somewhere--maybe Wondo and Boyd both make it, or maybe both Beckerman and Edu. It's funny how having a final 30 doesn't really feel like it makes anything clearer at all.

Who will be the unlucky 7? Corona, Davis, Beckerman or Jones?, Wondow, Yedlin, Green, Evans.

There will be some great battles in camp.

Yedlin "makes it" over Evans every time Sigi fills out his line up card.

i get it that Evans filled in well enough, but he is not a right back. And Yedlin, for all his youth, has incredible make up speed. Have him stay at home in the WC and he will be fine.

But yeah, he is probably not on the plane.

Bummed for Ream and agree with everything Greg said above

Andy Palmer said...

I don't see Chandler making the plane. Evans will make it, for his versatility if nothing else.

@TonyM - Yeah, Yedlin looked great yesterday getting burned by the Revs (particularly Fagundez)multiple times. I'm sure he will be wonderful against Ronaldo.

Greg Seltzer said...

@ Andy Palmer: Evans will never see a minute in this midfield, so versatility will not help him here.

Do you think Klinsmann is bringing Edu as cover for DM and CB? I'd like to see him paired up with Bradley for a friendly.

Greg Seltzer said...

I certainly hope he is not messing with Edu at CB.

Greg, what do you think of Landon being listed as a forward? I've always preferred him as a midfielder, that way he can help to distribute on the counter more.

Noah, it doesn't matter where Donovan is listed, he is not going to be playing a lone striker in the 4-5-1
