Can I just say something?

Costa Rica, dude.

I mean, what?! All props to the Ticos, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them come of age and find a new level. And to see them crack the Grecian formula with 10 men was amazing. We all know how troublesome that team can be in a tournament.

And ummm, Oranje best pull their socks up this week. In case you did not notice, they could potentially be forced to go through a "Gold Cup knockouts" to reach the final again.

One can hope, anyway...

They showed a ton of heart. I loved it. I knew they wouldn't totally collapse like Mexico. Even down a man they were pushing and trying to score. I love when teams fight like that. Poor Joel Campbell, he was working as hard as any footballer I've ever seen.

Can't wait for the USA-Costa Rica semi-final. :)

What a difference a year makes for Joel Campbell: http://static3.businessinsider.com/image/522df033eab8eaee7722b6a4/original-8.gif

I also remember CR fans booing and whistling throughout the US National anthem in that game. CR is definitely a feel-good story, and great for CONCACAF. Let's just hope they continue to show more class on the world stage then they did in October.

CR didn't show class in October? Frankly, they had a case - but they also had a chance to call the game when the ref asked. But I didn't think there was anything outrageous about their reaction. It was understandable.

As for the game, it may not have been pretty, but it was tense and dramatic. CR was heroic. PK shoot outs, say what you will but in the World Cup knock out stages, they are the most heightened drama in sports.

Justin: my comments are obviously about the snow. Booing a national anthem shouldn't happen, of course. But at least they didn't through bags of urine like some home crowds do :-)

Sorry, I meant September instead of October. That's when the US traveled down to CR and lost 3-1. The snow game happened in March, but they were still extremely poor sports six months later. Given the length of time between games, I felt this was a poor reaction.

Don't get me wrong, I was pulling for Costa Rica the whole time, but that's mostly because I can't stand Greece's style of play.

Ah. I was confused. Sorry.

Gold Cup Knockouts... I love it. Mexico, CR, USA. Especially the part about playing the USA in the semis.

Justin, I had mixed feelings during the CR game. On the one had, I was pulling for Concacaf thunder, but on the other I felt it was karma when Duarte got sent off. Remember the Campbell dive that got Besler sent off?

Costa Rica was undoubtedly the second best team in CONCACAF over the last two years. It's fun as heck to see them represent the region so well.
