Group G Advanced Scouting

Let's take a quick look around the group for some news of note...

Ghana
- This will come as no surprise, but the Black Stars are basically thinking along the same exact lines as of all of us statesiders: gotta gotta gotta win the first one.

Portugal - Uh oh. That is not "'nuff said" for this gang - but it's in the general area. Keep a watchful eye on this story.

Germany - Die Mannschaft is set, and lots of folks are having overdone reactions that Miroslav Klose is the only quote-unquote true striker in the bunch. It's a false narrative. Not only have Germany been using a lot of hybrid forwards around a #9 type in recent years, but Podolski, Müller, Götze, Schürrle and Draxler all can operate in this manner. So, yeah, let's try not to worry too much about Germany.

What you really mean is "worry a lot about Germany", right? Team is stacked. I did think it was funny that Low said "we have 2 players at every position" and then only listed one forward. Apparently he isn't as concerned with roster positions as Jurgen "Landon-Is-A-Forward" Klinsmann

So formations matter but positions don't? I kid.

Hybrid attackers fit into formations, too.

The Ghana want to win storyline makes it kind of stupid that JK wants to play a diamond formation against them. Hopefully, it's just an experiment, and we stick with the 4-2-3-1. If Ghana are going to come at us full force, it's better to set up for countering from a more secure formation.

Yeah, I would prefer the old 4-4-1-1 empty bucket over a diamond against any of these teams. If your diamond has troubles with Azerbaijan up the gut... oi vey.
