Halftime Talk

A few quick thoughts, feel free to add your own...

  • Deuce is Captain America mixed with Houdini. In less than a minute.
  • Bedoya has been a boss. Apart from the goal play, nearly all the industry has come through him.
  • Bradley has been oddly ineffective all over midfield.
  • Altidore? Ouch, dude. Ouch. And then Besler.
  • There is a lot of learning on the job happening out there. luckily, a share of it is in the white shirts.
  • Beasley and Jones need to crack down, jack. Eight crosses came out of their zone.
  • Timmy Howard is a big man. And, ya know what? So is Kyle Beckerman.
  • Last time I checked, a karate kick across the face is worth a yellow card. Or even a second yellow. Am I nuts or did that get totally glossed over?

Jones, a complete stud. Bedoya is very solid. Beckerman is a buzzard, looking to swallow prey. Deuce is great, that goal was world class. All studs along the back line. Way to go JAB.

Jozy is a stud, we could use him healthy.

All these studs, and junior did not have one of his better games.

We need to bite Portugal hard.

buzzards don't really have 'prey'

Good point Susan. How about a pterodactyl?

Jones was absolutely immense. Pretty disciplined in the back, effective going forward, seemed to go full speed after every ball, and put in plenty of hard, fair tackles. Maybe Klinsi knew what he was talking about all those times he mentioned the fight, desire, hustle, and bite Jermaine has that's needed in the WC.

Now if we can figure out what's wrong with Bradley and why everyone's getting injured. Overtraining maybe?

Hmm. I found Jones to be rather timid in the first half. He was a lot better after the break, but still well below his Nigeria outing.

I don't often disagree with Greg, but I do today. I thought Jones was "on" all game.

Jones made fewer defensive plays than Bedoya in 13 more minutes and was barely evident in attack after the opener. He was not nearly enough help to DMB in the first half. He was decent in the second half, though.

USA was playing with eight years of nerves on the line, and like all good teams, they had a response when they needed it. This team will be more relaxed next game, and when Bradley finds his groove, they will be more dangerous as well.

Jozy is a big loss, but Portugal will not know what to expect next game, except from the USA defense, which they know will be hawking. Mueller scored some opportunistic goals today, the kind wondo likes to feast on as well.

Entrance into the knockout stage is through the Amazonia.
