Cameron-omics

So, I have done some digging around here here and there. It turns out the Stoke Sentinel article about Geoff Cameron interest was largely headed in the right direction, if not fully comprehensive/up to date.

Let's begin in Germany. Earlier, I threw up a flag on the Eintracht Frankfurt link and that stands as current - but it turns out they did at one time call up to ask about his financial particulars. It went no further and Eintracht are only looking in attack now. Likewise, the Schalke technical staff did actually make a call about Cameron (the right back version), but that is also a closed scene by now. Another Bundesliga club in the picture is Hamburg (think CB here), but it seems that league's number stops at three for the summer and the one current. Across the borders, Cameron also had fleeting glances from PSV Eindhoven and Anderlecht.

Turning to England, he does have several suitors, perhaps even more than the five asserted in the Sentinel article. However, I have been told that Stoke have no interest in selling Cameron and I cannot confirm any single one of the linked clubs as suitors. I will say Southampton and Sunderland seem prime suspects if there ever were some, with both angling for defenders.

To sum up, someone could always knock their socks off with a lofty bid, but for now it appears he is going nowhere.

Ughhh Schalke would have been great.

How's the Yedlin watch? I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop to hear he's actually moving to Chivas USA or something depressing like that.

Come to find out the Schalke manager did not like the idea quite as much as the TD did.

Until I hear differently, he is headed toward Roma.

I really liked the idea of him moving to another club at first, but with Bardsley coming over, Stoke won't have to shoehorn Cameron in RB, and now he can fight for a center position. We all want him to get minutes, but it would be even better if he can win his minutes with superior play rather than just filling a need for another team.

Greg, any fire to go with the smoke seemingly coming from Mix's latest tweet?

Dunno, could be.

So mix nixes the Portland deal, and a chance to play in a beautiful situation, to go with Columbus crew, a year later??? He's the big national team player berhaulter was talking about. Lol. And he called up Columbus....

That would be awesome mixx and higuain pulling the strings with trapp covering. Crew dont have portlands support and lack flashy names but their a better team than portland

Dik, a lot has changed in the 20 months since the Mix to Portland deal fell through. Assuming the little bits we heard were true, the league wasn't willing to let Portland sign him as a DP (not even a low-level DP as i assume he would have been) and he was talked out of taking a non-DP deal. But this was before MLS started splashing cash all over the place for National team guys and before Mix was a WC veteran (even if he never played). As far as the club, he was interested in Portland because of Porter, and no doubt Columbus is appealing because he likes what he sees from Berhalter. It's amazing what a young coach on the rise can do for player recruitment.

Plus remember he was coach at staebeck so mix knew of berhalter.

Berhalter was coach of Hammarby, in Sweden.

Personally, this makes literally no sense for Stoke given that Bardsley is a huge downgrade in quality from Cameron. Cameron not only fills the utility role for Stoke, but is a much more effective player which the stats clearly reflect.

Either there is a lot of interest and they are looking to cash in or as usual, Stoke have literally no idea what they are doing in the transfer market.

Stoke has no control over whether other clubs have interest in one of their players. As I reported at MLSS, they are not interested in selling Cameron.
