Toronto Grabs Alex Bono, January USMNT Camp Call-up, Sixth

The Syracuse goalkeeper is in California, so no words from him liev at the draft, but Toronto grabs a strong player at a position without much depth.

Bono will compete with starter Joe Bendik for the no. 1 shirt on Toronto, who are looking to right the ship after missing out on the playoffs last year. Jozy Altidore is set to join the club in a swap with Sunderland for want away Jermaine Defoe.

I'd expect him to get some playing time this season, either with TFC or through a loan.

After all of the snubs to Alex Bono from the US National Youth teams, a lot of people are very interested in seeing how he does as a pro. Is he as good as a lot of people thought he was since a young age, or were folks like Tab Ramos right to keep snubbing him time and time again. Hopefully we will find out soon.

In the interest of full disclosure, I saw him play for Empire United in the Development Academy and have been a huge fan of his ever since. It has been strange watching his career at Syracuse turn out exactly as I expected it to do, yet watch his youth national team career not materialize. The guys getting call ins were not bad players - just not as good as him in my eyes.

Regardless, hopefully he gets minutes in USL if they don't think he is ready to start for their MLS squad.
