Maybe they'll flatten out of the diamond in a traditional 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 with Zardes slotting in behind Jozy. Remember: "Formations don't matter, it's all about positioning" /sarcasm
I'm really sad Johnson isn't starting LB due to flu-like symptoms. LB is our biggest question mark, along with CAM.
i thought we got past the "4 CMs" phase like 3 years ago...
Given the circumstances, I am happy with the result. NBCSports correctly identified Bradley as not a traditional CAM#10, but as a roamer, free to do w/e he wanted, and he was rewarded with a couple great chances, and should have scored at least one of them. I was really impressed with Danny Williams. I think he could be the proper successor to Becks, or at least can fight Cameron for that #6 role. A lot of attacks started from Chandler's play. He'll have to play defense once in a while though. JK attempted to play Morales like he did JJ in the 4-3-3, but with mixed results. Most of the danger the US presented came from the right side I felt, in part by Bedoya's play, and Zardes willingness to pull back and help in possession (not sure if that ended up being a positive or negative).
Much better game. But I still have a gut feeling that even with Jozy not given a red we still let that corner kick goal
I have a feeling that the Swiss were able to get more set pieces in the final 25' because of the red, and therefore got more bites at the apple, increasing the odds of the US letting one in.
1. the announced formation doesnt matter. jk announces it arbitrarily. when we were playing the "diamond 4-4-2" it was exactly the same as our "4-2-3-1"
2. ^this yes this
What,no snark after your boy gets stupidly sent off after the US had dominated the game up to that point?
Crickets.
Why all the Jozy hate? Yes, he's basically still a kid that does dumb stuff sometimes but sheesh. Was there a 'Dog Day Afternoon' type hostage standoff he's done that I didn't know about?
@ Dany:
That was in no way a 4-2-3-1.
@ True Crew:
I hammered him for it in the player ratings. What it has to do with his tenure at Sunderland, I have no idea.
And you must be confused, I have no children.
well yeah it wasnt this time, in the past it has been. the formation against switzerland looked to me much closer to the flat 4-4-2 we played against denmark. if you look at our matches against mexico and turkey, it was 4-2-3-1, but i agree, the last two matches it has been 4-4-2 and michael bradley and me both disapprove.
