Assuming we stick with the 4-4-2 (though his addition really does seem to make the 4-3-3 that Ramos prefers more suitable), I wonder where the Zelalem/Hyndman pairing will rank in u-20 midfields. That being said, is Ramos going to be okay playing without a pure d-mid in front of the back 4? I say we scrap it all and go with a 3 man back line with CCV, EPB and Miazga! :)
If they do go the 4-3-3 route, I find it worrisome that Tab left out Ben Spencer (even if he is just coming back from injury) and couldn't get Novakovich released. The team struggled playing with 1 CF when they tried it with Jamieson, etc., and I think the forward pool fits a 2-forward system. Just when the team looked to be getting set on playing a 4-4-2, it seems weird to change it all up based on just getting one player, even if he does have the hype Zelalem does.
I would venture to guess Ramos has played these guys in the 4-3-3 leading up to this tourney more than the 4-4-2. It is a relatively recent change across the board. Agreed on Novakovich, but I don't think Spencer would have started ahead of Jameison anyway. I agree they struggled in the 4-3-3 with Jamieson as CF, but I think a lot of that had to do with the wings not playing well and/or selfishly (hence Gall not being invited).
Normally I wouldn't suggest a formation change as a cure to our problems, but it seems like Hyndman and Zelalem both need to be on the field and I am not sure whether Hyndman plays the pure number 6 that the diamond usually implies. Maybe that means he or Zelalem starts out wide in the diamond with the inclination to cut inside while Rubin or Jameison drift wide.
Dunno. I like the parts I am just curious how they will fit together. Good problems to have.
Shutouts 11 Cohen, Maccabi Haifa 4 Steffen, Manchester City 1 Lansing, Aalesund FK 1 Murray, Honka
