Here is one to kick around.

The Guardian has run a little balloting exercise with 20 scribes to come up with a list of the top 25 USMNT players of all-time. Here is a list of the voters, and here is the overall tally.

I will need a little time to digest their list and formulate my own, but right off the top, I will say it is criminal that John O'Brien is tied for 39th behind a slew of guys from a far weaker era of the sport that are best known for 1-2-3 games that none of these folks ever saw. Tsk. Tsk.

Well one of these 19 voters actually voted Donovan 13 th best men's player of all time. This must have been the same person who voted Cobi jones second best men's player of all time.

In a lot of ways, this list can remind us that it can be difficult to choose a 23 man roster, but that's what our national team coach is paid for. How can a guy who was dubbed captain for life, because of his quality on the field, not get more respect? Obviously because of his off field issues, which frankly are his own business. john harkes is one of the best players USA has ever produced, I mean gosh, is there even any doubt? Man, I don't get it.

We have not quite yet learned how to take the melting pot, and turn it into a homogenous unit. These sept. Friendlies should be interesting to see what new faces get called in. Coach klinsmann needs to find something, because the October game is bigger for no one more than our national team coach.
