Grrrrl Power

It took a couple days, but we now have the full highlights from the USWNT win over rivals China from this weekend.

Of course, Abby Wambach will say goodbye to the team and the fans when these two teams reunite tonight in New Orleans. And US Soccer has also been kind enough to corral clips of all 184 of her goals on one page.

Abby is already doing a fine job of stirring things up. Was listening to her on the Bill Simmons podcast this AM and she's pulling no punches. She's cut from the same cloth as Wynalda, but less goofy.

Will check it out.

To much politics in her comments to discuss here. Better idea is to talk about snow conditions in the wasatch range

From Mix:

"Wow Abby,

I guess there are pros and cons in limiting the base for selection.

You have just singled out a few of us. But why? Why are we your single oddballs?

Think about who you try to disenfranchise. Because if you see us as the group to disenfranchise, then at least let it be known who we are.

Stats and history will show - "our group" has more than others produced volunteer and defending soldiers for what, by us, is willingly chosen and gathered to be worth protecting: Your nation.
Wish you would accept it as ours too.
I know we're not quite equal. From "your group of people" the country's Commander in Chief need to be selected. However, other than that - you and I share something not unique, but constitutionally earned, a birthright to defend this nation as an American. Wherever we go. Led by whoever has earned, by democratic process, his/her right to lead, on or off the field, in peace, in war, in practice, or in any other kind of pursuit of your happiness.

Enjoy your retirement. But stay active. We all need you. Oddballs or not.

Yeah, for the record, I find all derogatory dual-international talk to be nonsense.

This would still be mixs nation, even if he choose to play for Norway.

Wasn't Abby just trying to say that building a powerful soccer nation is going to be done by developing talent from within?

You can't make a generically disparaging reference to "foreign players" and expect that it won't insult the dedication of those who feel they're being referred to - much less that it offers some sort of meaningful contribution to our "in-house" development or how these "foreign players" impact its improvement.

It's a textbook entry of a hot take.

it makes you wonder if abby was not reading about the Israeli American, who has given notice that since Israel is not chomping at his bit, he is agreeable to now playing for the USA. in light of this recent article, and the comments associated with said player, abby does make a point.

coach klinsmann already has his mandate, and it states that he will not lose to Guatemala on the road, or draw at home, and it also requires advancement out of the group stages next summer in copa america.
