Senior Moment

Meanwhile, the main USMNT also has some business coming up and we'll need a squad for that. Obviously, I've dropped a few regular names out, but there should be more than enough left to handle a Guatemala team in rebuild mode. Clearly, I will not be getting several of these wishes (remember, this is not a Klinsi call-up prediction). Starters are again in boldface:

Guzan, Howard

Lichaj, Gonzalez, Besler, Villafana, Ream, Hedges, Goodson, Parkhurst

Cameron, Bradley, Diskerud, Nagbe, Williams, Feilhaber

Bedoya, Dempsey, Johnson, Wood, Shea, Finlay

Do note that, if his club was actually playing, I would be calling Bjørn Maars Johnsen. But, ya know... they are not.

This lineup would certainly morph into a 4-1-4-1, no? Fab and Alejandro both have end-to-end capabilities/instincts.
Steve Birnbaum over Clarence, for me. I see him evolving into our next Besler--may as well start getting him some meaningful experience, even if that's as CB cover.
Also Williams and Bradley playing free box-to-box roles with Cameron as cover would be hell for opposition. Haven't been sold on Mixx for the last year or two because of his inconsistency.

Since he joined NYCFC, what Diskerud performances (either club or country) are people high on? His goal vs Russia was great but that was years ago... I can't put him ahead of Kljestan or Nguyen.

@ Nikolas:

No 4-1-4-1, please. And Birnbaum was very shaky defensively against weak competition in January. Besides, as I keep saying, I'm still not at all sure why Goodson was jettisoned in the first place. As for your midfield suggestion, that basically forces Bradley to act as #10, which I'm not down with.

@ both of you guys:

The struggles experienced by Mix have usually come when he is played out of position. And he's started this MLS season off pretty well, which is no surprise to me because he's back where he belongs.

Not for nothing, but it looks like mix started off this game tonight on the wing in a 3-4-3, and of course Shea is at left back. It's total madness!!!

Love your calls greg, alas lichaj...

Mix looked pretty good again but, not surprisingly, he was not on the wing. NYCFC is not playing a flat 4. At least not at the stadium, we'll see what happens when they go on the road on a wider pitch.

NyFC play soccer like its ice hockey. The old chuck wagon brand.

You ranked John Brooks as the best left centerback in the pool and then leave him out of the squad altogether?

Dempsey as the lone 9 with two defensive* wingers? Guess you're hoping for a tie. Put the hot boy on the field, Wood is on fire

Johnson and Bedoya are defensive wingers? News to me.

And I don't feel Wood can do hold-up for 90 minutes.
