Another First

Last week, it was Emerson Hyndman. Today, it was Christian Pulisic, who hit the opener/winner in a 3-0 BvB victory over Hamburg to become the fourth youngest scorer in Bundesliga history. Dig that first touch to set himself up.

That was outstanding!

Am I imagining it, or has the USMNT fanbase learned to slow down the hype train for this kid? Totally anecdotal, but a post like this, 5 years ago, would have had 35 comments if it was Freddy Adu or Jozy.

I like the restraint!

amazing considering the stage pulisic is at right now, at his age... *knocks on wood* special moment.

@Matt:

I think close followers of the team have also learned that it will take a TEAM for the USMNT to become great. Obviously, a talent of Pulisic's caliber helps with that, but we need to develop a deeper pool of excellent players AND put them in a system that caters to their abilities, which has become all the more obvious under JK.

Yeah, @mike and @matt - just look a Portugal. a team of "stars", really, by US standards, and arguably the best or 2nd best player in the world, and they are average - until very recently. (7-0-1 in Euro qualifying isn't bad but their group was weeeeeaaaaak)

I totally agree. Just like the maturity, fellas!

The USA has U20 players being developed in the US, Mexico, England, Germany, Spain, and probably Holland and Scandinavia. My guess would be all German players are only in Germany, England only in England (maybe some in Barcelona buy only a few). Is this a beneficial thing? Sounds like a very American thing to blend cultures and maybe make a greater whole.

@Matt more likely it is because nobody comes to this site anymore. Go to Twitter, plenty of hype. The era of message boards and blog comments is over! Greg knows, that why he only updates once a month.

There's still plenty of people here. As for me, I'm just busier with real life these days.

Greg has his regulars and we aren't going anywhere.
