It's a new look in midfield and curious choices at the fullback slots.

Greg, there is nothing curious about making sure besler can backup Fabian Johnson at left back. We all think he can do it though, besler has a high soccer IQ.

It's also nice when a coach can get a player a cap in front of his hometown crowd, like it would be cool to see feilhaber playing in that bedoya role tonight, but it is just wishful thinking at this moment

Dik,

I agree with Benny, well at least last year when he was tearing it up. Not so much this season.

So we don't have any other LB that can play? Oh wait they all got cut from the team. *Hope and pray Fabian does not get hurt*

Klinsman "Ya Fabian got hurt, oh no vorries we have Rea... we have Eric L.... Oh farfanoogin!...... BESLER!!!!

Bedoya is certainly making a statement tonight. i think somehow, USA fans are great, but when regime after regime, people act like we have a high school coach coaching our national team, it hurts. It hurts in the attendance.

Hopefully fans will step up at copa America

The pulisic nagbe double sub will be something for opposing teams to fear at this coming copa America. Dempsey..... Pass the freaking ball please

Our national team played with a real fluidity tonight, and I think it might only get better.

@Down Chandler was supposed to start but is hurt. He will be replaced by Castillo, but he has a playoff game. You can't carry 4 LBs (Orozco would play there before Besler you would assume).

This 4-3-3 is 9-0 in the three games we have used it.

@Pat But lets not forget Castillo is a late addition. We all know what happens when you don't bring cover for your players.

It seems like JK is figuring it out. It has taken long enough. The midfield looks good. Would love to have Fab playing on the wing in attack, not defense.

Still scared JK won't start Cam and Brooks together.

Both Besler and Orozco were, and will continue to be, offensive anchors. Sure Besler can do the defensive work (I am not so sure Orozco can in a consistent manner.... but we are in a position where our only replacement for FabJo is someone we didnt want in the first place (for good reason). And let's face it FabJo is not a shining star defensively either, his value comes on the other half. At some point I fear Fabjo's penchant for ignoring follow up runs from his side is going to cost us a goal if he is playing LB. I mean it often does so I guess I am not revealing much there.

Somehow LB is still a complete mystery to JK. My guess is it has to do with him being unable to select new players for meaningful minutes unless they absolutely force themselves into the picture (or if it is a new and inventive way for him to get 3 defensive midfielders playing out of position).

Dam, who do you think are the replacements thag WE don't want?

There are not very many countries (or clubs for that matter) who have top notch LBs. It is a worldwide shortage.

DaM said...

@downintexas I was referring to Castillo and the "we" is more our national team coaching staff who didn't think he was good enough to be the backup.

Dam, I think we can al surmise that chandler was chosen first over Castillo because he is more versatile, and that was the reason for his being included over Castillo. In neither case, chandler or Castillo, are we talking about a starter. Majority of the fans are now more comfortable with Besler at left back anyway. Probably should have seen him there sooner.

DaM,

gotcha.

Would have loved if Eric Lichaj would have been given a shot. Yes I know they brought him in this time, but man they could have looked at him years ago.
