The more I see Nagbe at this level, the more I think FabJo will be playing left back for now on, and I am okay with that.
Will be an interesting question to see if Arena can make the adjustment that Holden and Donovan have been talking about. I love how Morris looked early, but with Costa Rica deeply bunkered Morris can't use his speed and doesn't contribute much in close quarters. Obviously Dempsey is going to come on for him at some point, but it'll be interesting to see in what base formation.
Much fewer awful moments from the defense though the Kansas City duo had a few split between them. Still much better. We'll see how half two goes but this may be the end of Hedges's bid for a world cup spot. There are a lot of up and coming young options.
In other news that Altidore guy looks like he may lift weights.
Can the anti jozy crowd please tell me again why we need to bench him, or sorry not even bring him in any more?
Urgh! Don't encourage them.
lol sorry Greg? Player ratings posted yet?
Is there still an anti-Jozy crowd? That actually kind of surprises me.
Everyone played well last night. All fans have their favorites, even "unbiased" reporters. How about the crowd that thinks starting in the bundas league is more impressive and warrants starting over someone starting in MLS? There is a large section of fans in the US soccer community, who feel this way. Nagbe could have defended better last night, and when he loses the ball, he needs to fight to get it back. And nagbe needs to learn better team defense. Coach Arena will work this out with him.
By far the best overall performance by the US in this Gold Cup. There were still a few defensive lapses that luckily CR couldn't take advantage of, but a much better effort by the guys in the back.
Greg try using Thieves Oil on your tonsils and throat. It's a mix of natural oils that is also sometimes called germ fighter. In addition to whatever antibiotics or meds your using of coarse. It's basically a natural antiseptic but it's been effective against even mrsa infections. Feel better.
Feel better greg
Love bradley and nagbe connecting, they seem to have a really good understanding. A lot of pieces coming together at a good time, if we're healthy we can take some decent depth to russia.
@dwc agreed, definitely the best we've looked. I'd still like to see us be a little less mistake prone in back. There were some funny ones (Besler's back pass to the corner) and some not funny ones (omar fell asleep once, I believe it was Bradley who had a chance to stop that Ruiz run or the Zusi lost in defense one in first half).
I was at the game. One thing that stands out about Altidore: he should spend more time learning how to control the ball than lifting weights. He is lazy. He doesn't protect the ball well with his back to pressure. 1 goal in, what is it?, 10 games, does not make a quality international striker.
Nagbe is a quality player. Comfortable under pressure, dynamic with good speed & quickness & seems to have a good understanding with Bradley.
Yeah, that's it with Jozy. Jack of all trades, master of none. He honestly would be a better player if he was less technical and had to commit to being a hold-up guy.
Our national team, and this set of players, along with coach Arena, all have a point to prove Wednesday night, and my guess is 🇯🇲 is going to be on the wrong side of a real beat down. 4 maybe 5 nil!
people see jozy's big musckles and say "oh look a target forward". he's not a target forward. he's not a blazer either. he can get in behind a defense now and then, like we just saw against costa rica, and he can hold the ball up sometimes, play flicks sometimes, and we see this a bit every match.
his game is a lot of dropping back and linking up, which in turn creates a lot of problems for defenses. we saw it on lichaj's goal against ES, and Zardes's non-goal. Even with no goals and assists, his contribution on what should have been 2 of our 3 goals on the night was vital. he does a lot of this and it doesnt show up on the scoresheet. and for good measure, he has 4 assists in those 10 games as well.
@dany I think people look at Jozy's play AND his big muscles and point out that he serves as a great target forward, but anyone watching him knows he is way more than just McBride 2.0. Always been an overly selfless, good passer, has a cannon shot and good enough on the ball that he can (and did, once upon a time) play out wide.
If Jozy were a more selfish player, like Clint, we would already be discussing how many more years he will need to pass Clint/Landon for number one goals.
@Dany and @DaMa good points on Jozy. Greg has pointed out how well he did this at Sunderland and despite him not scoring many goals there, Sunderland were a better team and scored more goals while he was on the pitch.
@DaMa "anyone watching him knows he is way more than just McBride 2.0"
Jozy is rank in the air. Rarely see him power header a ball. I don't think he does anything spectacularly well but he's still mostly better than the other CF types in the pool.
