Oh, you are gonna love this...

Let's start with the meat of it: DeAndre Yedlin is all but an AS Roma player. The deal is lacking only the dotted i's and whatnot. He will remain on loan to Seattle for the rest of the season and then may go out on loan again to another Italian club next year. I should have another detail or two at some later point.

Now... you may be wondering something like "What the hell, Greg?"

Well, the hell is, for the first time that I can be sure, I was led onto a landmine. It seems like they saw me coming and put out a lie for me to step on. I won't go into any more specifics about it all, because I refuse to cause troubles for any of my birdies. I suppose I could or even should be pissed, but what can ya do? I got a few too many things too right too often and here we are. So I'll take it as a compliment.

In any event, sorry for the rotten info. I'm glad I was able to correct this quickly, before everyone and their mother was reporting it and I would look like a complete doof. Instead of a half-doof, like now.

Whoa. Do you think it's a good fit? My instinct says its better than @#$!$ Liverpool, but what the hell do I know? Any ideas about where he'd go on loan? How about Chievo Verona? :D

Also, is this Besler-decision-in-ten-days stuff legit?

So wait, what was the landmine?

Greg Seltzer said...

1 - Yeah, it's definitely a good fit. There is no way to know who may get him next year, depends on who will have the non-EU slot available.

2 - Yeah. Situation is hot.

The landmine was that a "no contact, no interest" was given when that was not true at all. Verbatim, that is what I got.

They fed you false information to weed out the mole? This is some James Bond, spy ish.

Ha! Well, I suppose it is a kind of compliment.

Figure he goes on loan to a S.B or low table club, eh?

Greg, you think its possible Roma might loan him back to MLS? Or would they definitely keep him in Italy?

bhamhawker said...

Do we have any solid info on the teams going after Besler?

Also, is Yedlin a good fit in Italy?

I think he's a better fit at Liverpool. The fact that I'm a huge LFC fan has nothing to do with it, mind you. NOTHING AT ALL.

Just now remembering that Roma played last year's MLS all-star game... with Yedlin in the line-up for MLS. I know you're just now getting the full details on this, Greg, but does it stand to reason that Roma have had him in their sights for the last year?

Jolazo said...

When you say next season, does that mean he will be joining Roma/being loaned to another Serie A club in January or next July?

Greg Seltzer said...

@ bellbj8:

Heh. Probably just to throw me off the scent.

@ Tom:

Nah, I would assume they would prefer Serie A.

@ Wilkerson:

Expect him in Italy next year, I would think.

@ bhamhawker:

So far I only know for certain a bunch of teams who are not after Besler.

And yeah, Roma should be good for Yedlin and vice versa.

@ Jay:

That I do not know. At least yet.

@ Jolazo:

The plan is for Italy in January. Of course, we all know the way to make God laugh is to have one.

Wow, Adu is heading to your back yard for a trial. Does Earnie owe someone a favor for this!?

Referring to this?: Adu to sign for Swedish side Malmo FF

Probably this: https://twitter.com/AZAlkmaar/status/485829003648204800

Maybe I should read the entire name next time: Enoch Kofi Adu to Malmo...hah. One of these days Freddie will get more than just a trial, or "is training with..."

I'm more interested in to know whether they see him as a Right Back or a Winger? Obviously he plays Right Back for Seattle, but only has been for a few years. He caught everyone's eye in Brazil with his attacking play.

Also Greg, you don't have to justify yourself. If you didn't get any info in your research that's all that needs to be said. I'd rather you tell us what you know than make up crap like half the "Journalists" in this game do. Thanks for being honest.

Greg Seltzer said...

Thanks, Rob. Was not so much to justify as to correct and tell the story of what happened - I try to keep it gonzo here as much as I can. But also, I know everybody here relies on my info, so an explanation certainly seems in order.

As far as right back or right wing, I am not sure. I do know he was wanted by both Garcia and the American owners.

Yedlin at Roma (eventually) turn me on!

As for staying with Seattle the rest of the year, that's awesome.

Well, I'm happy!

Most likely on loan to Genoa. The rumors I've been hearing are Genoa is keen on having him, but need the AS Roma cash and AS Roma likes his potential

Greg Seltzer said...

If I am not mistaken, Genoa is at the non-EU limit. Of course, they could always change that or loan someone out themselves by January.

brian said...

^^ wouldnt be the 1st time you've mistaken on this story..

Greg Seltzer said...

Yes, I know. I said as much in the post, with a sincere apology even though I was handed an intentionally misleading answer. I am not infallible, but it was an honest mistake. :)

So, is it gonna happen?
