Theres Something About Matt

Sorry, Freiburg fans, but the flag goes up for the second time in a month. As much as Kicker may think it is so, I have again been assured by those who would know that the Bundesliga club is not chasing Matt Besler.

In fact, these folks are pretty confused, as Freiburg are not even looking for a center back. Furthermore, I am told, any club able to snare the US defender will need to break the Sporting KC transfer fee record.

So who is in the chase? Well, I am about 98% and 70% certain of two English suitors in particular... but you will just need to wait a teensy bit longer for me to spill.

Sorry if you've answered this before, but what is your opinion of @MLSTransfers?

Or does this fall under your "I have no use for twitter" mantra?

QPR and ?

Already raised the flag on QPR. :)

So, Kicker apparently removed any mention of Matt Besler in that post.

Greg Seltzer said...

Wow, they sure did. Even changed the headline, which had his name in it before.

But Besler's name is still in the URL. Hilarious.

I'm just wondering... your thoughts about his ceiling? He's good - but my eye tells me he is at his ceiling already. Clearly, I would like to be wrong, but I'm not sure he cuts it at a big club. He can probably cut it at a mid level club - just a question of where.

Only thing he could add is a physical part of his game so he won't get knock off like he did against lukaku.

And that may also be a product of already playing 90' vs fresh legs.

That, and Lukaku being a human freight train on a soccer field.

I don't understand why Liverpool isn't interested in Besler. Our defense last year was awful, in part because Carragher, having retired, wasn't organizing the line. An intelligent CB like Besler would be a real asset.

You think Liverpool fans would sanction a Besler buy?? I was laughing last week when the scouser twittershpere blew-up that Wilfried Bony is not a good enough signing for liverppol and not a suitable replacement for Suarez... like any signing would be... Unproven-in-league MLS journeyman signed?? Scousers would be calling for a lynching...

Everyone knows Liverpool supporters aren't real Scousers...those would be the Evertonians....

"but you will just need to wait a teensy bit longer for me to spill." aka other media outlets to break it first

Do you really get the impression I go along with other media outlets? More often then not, someone has to point their reports out to me.

But more to the point, I may just offer up my advanced suspicions on this just for you. :)

If you'd prefer, instead of scousers I could say bin dippers...

I'll be waiting...

Of course, I was joking. I will put them up when I am sure they are correct, as usual. If that means somebody else outs them first, so be it. I am not competing against other journalists, I barely pay attention to them on topics I am pursuing.

of course, HAHA good one... whats your definition of a tinsy bit longer? one day, two days...3 weeks?

Greg Seltzer said...

Could be today. Working on it.
